Grosnez Castle
|
A visit to the top western corner of the Island took us to Grosnez Castle and I took time out to quickly watercolour sketch the Ruins of a 14th-century castle with concrete steps leading to a former signal station & ocean views. A totally beautiful site with fantastic panoramic views.

Le Braye |
Travelling further West to the 5 mile Beach area (which is actually 3.2 miles) the weather became windier due to the beach being so large and flat and catching all the South Westerly winds of the day. One stop along the way saw us at Le Braye and a fantastic view of La Rocco Tower, perched precariously on a rock in the sea, just past the low tide position.

Devils Hole |
Another day we moved over to the middle of the North of the Island visiting the famously named Devils Hole. A long winding walk down a steep rocky track past a hidden pond with a delicious statue of the Devil (about 8ft tall) stood in the far corner, although it looked more like Mr Tumner from The Lion Witch and the Wardrobe. You wouldn't want to wander down there on a dark evening without knowing it was there, I can tell you.

Gorey Castle early evening |
Gorey Castle over on the Far East of the Island sits on a Rocky hill top far above the small but pretty village harbour of Gorey. The Correct name for the castle is Mont Orgueil Castle. A towering medieval castle with hidden rooms and a fantastic sea view.
